Rather than posting videos from the Modular Vimeo playlist for the next few days I might as well just put them in a single post. So, here is something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue (sort of).
Something old:
This is a track from the 2007 album ‘A New Chance’ by Swedens very own The Tough Alliance. Bands just don’t make music videos like they used to in the good old days… oh wait, they do.
Something new:
Video for the single ‘Doubt’ from the new Delphic album which is out now (or in two days if you live in Australia).
Something borrowed:
The ‘Zoetron’ was made by The Groop who are a group (duh) of young creative professionals from down under. The music is a remix of Death from Above 1979’s track ‘Romantic Rights’ by Erol Alkan (I think) so you can take the ‘borrowed’ element however you want… read more about the Zoetron here.
Something blue:
It’s dubious link time… This is the video for The Lake by Muscles, an Australian electronic musician (there must be something in the water down there, apart from sharks) who released the album this track is taken from, called Guns Babes Lemonade, in 2007. The video is based around water…. hence, blue… get it? no? ok.
that is all.
Loads of great music/videos coming out of the Modular camp over the past few months, my current favourite being the Special Problems directed video for this track from 21 year old Australian, Jonathan Boulet. Find out more about him and listen to some more tracks over at his MySpace
More to come from Modular but for now, sit back and pretend it’s summer (unless you live in Oz, in which case stop sitting in front of your computer!)
For fans of: The Temper Trap, Van She, Cut Copy… you get the idea!
This clever little video was directed by the artist Oren Lavie himself with Yuval & Merav Nathan which is pretty neat. It has even been nominated for a 2010 Grammy in the category of ‘Best Short Form Music Video’

I have been pretty slack at posting over the past few months… the summer is not the right season to be sitting in front of a computer but now I think I would rather be inside so I guess there will be some more bits and bobs appearing over the next few weeks.
The first ‘bit’ is the new video by Frightened Rabbit, a band whose songs seem to remind me purely of driving back into London on sunday evenings last year. I had a limited amount of tapes in the car. Guess they shouldn’t have made such a good album. FOOLS!
Anyway, this is the new track from their album set for release in spring next year which has no name yet. This song, as you can tell from the title of this post is called ‘Swim Until You Can’t See Land’. Don’t take that sentiment to heart kids unless you have a) massive armbands or b) massive bank debts.

I want to add a ‘bob’ to this one too… stop me if you know this one but here is a video by Sebastian Tellier which I only saw for the first time yesterday but the song and video are so good I have to share.
Last week was made brigther when the new Piroth album ‘Safe Haven’, which the lovely Johanna from the band was kind enough to stick in the post to me arrived on my doorstep. I have been enjoying the album on my walks around town through the leaves and first snow of the rapidly approaching winter here in Swedeland. It makes perfect listening in this kind of weather.
The opening track ‘See Her Sailing’ is the sort of epicly lovely song that could only be written by a Scandinavian band. I think I originally compared them to “if Melissa Auf Der Maur had been a folk musician in the old west” which I might change now but they still give me that kind of feeling where the songs have a longing, sad sound to them yet make you feel comfortable and warm when you listen. In fact I would add influences from The Concretes and The Decemberists to that original description.
Combine the girls beautiful voices with the imagery of the lyrics and you have an album of folk-pop which will not leave your stereo for a very long time after you buy it… and you should… and you can, when they release it through Oma Gusti Records/Sound Pollution this Wednesday or if you don’t like to hold your music in your hand then digitally via klicktrack where you can also preview the tracks.
Here is their new video for their track ‘Fog Dancers’ to be going on with.

I don’t know much about The Help Movement… I know that they are from my hometown and I know that I like this song. The video is filmed in and around the Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells and more specifically the Ragged Trousers pub which I miss dearly… a good pub is hard to find.
Anyway, here’s the music.
Oh and Max, I can see you!

This is the new video from Gothenburg post-rock band Audrey which has just brightened an otherwise grey, rainy day. I have never seen any black circles following me through the forests here but maybe I have just been lucky… either way, a great video.

I have been away quite a lot recently and haven’t updated much. It seems a few goodies have landed in my inbox while I have been gone. The first of which is the new solo record by Alan Wilkis who remixed that Phoenix track I posted earlier in the year.

His new record ‘Pink & Purple’ is more eighties than the eighties were in the best way possible. With a scattering of special guests such as members of Bell, Asobi Seksu, TV on the Radio, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Earl Greyhound, Antibalas, Dragons of Zynth and more, there is plenty to keep you entertained. If you are old enough to remember the sounds that entered your ears in the eighties then put your silk shirt, ray bans and cut off jeans on, start the convertible porsche up and give Pink & Purple a listen here. The album is out on Alans own Wilcassettes label now.
Now, back to the inbox…
For fans of: The eighties.

I always forget how much I love Dinosaur Jr but luckily they make songs like this to remind me… Really nice video too! ‘Over It’ is taken from ‘Farm’ which is out 23/6 on Jagjaguwar.
